The first Energy Release contract in the Aosta Valley is underway: agreement signed between the CVA Group and Cogne Acciai Speciali
As part of a broader collaboration between CVA and CAS, the agreement aims to install new renewable energy plants, supporting the region’s green energy transition.

The cooperation between the two key industrial players in the Aosta Valley continues: CVA Group and Cogne Acciai Speciali ("CAS") have signed an Energy Release contract — the first of its kind in the region.
Under the Energy Release scheme, a mechanism introduced by Italy’s Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, CAS will request the advance of 272,075 MWh of electricity from the GSE – Gestore dei Servizi Energetici. This energy will then be repaid over 20 years through the commissioning of new renewable energy plants, to be built and managed by CVA.
CVA will construct four new photovoltaic plants in Sicily, with a total capacity of over 20 MW and an estimated renewable energy output of 593,600 MWh, expected to be fully operational by 2026.
This marks the first time in the Aosta Valley, and one of the first at the national level, that an Energy Release agreement has been activated. Through this partnership, CAS and CVA strengthen their leading roles in the energy transition, contributing to the goals of the Regional Energy and Environmental Plan (PEAR VDA 2030) and the European Green Deal.
Cogne Acciai Speciali will benefit from enhanced energy performance and a reduced environmental impact of its production, in line with the Memorandum of Understanding signed with CVA in December 2024.
This agreement also confirms CVA’s leadership in the decarbonisation of the energy sector. The company will benefit primarily from a stabilized sale price for the energy produced by the new plants. In addition, participation in the Energy Release scheme will have positive economic impacts for the CVA Group, thanks to stable revenue flows and incentives granted by the GSE, helping accelerate the goals outlined in the 2026–2029 Strategic Plan.
CVA CEO Giuseppe Argirò stated:“We are pleased to announce this new agreement with Cogne Acciai Speciali, which marks an important milestone in the energy transition of the Aosta Valley. We have always supplied 100% renewable energy, firmly believing it is the only viable path toward a sustainable future. This agreement contributes—among other things—to achieving regional decarbonisation targets. The synergy and alignment of goals with CAS will act as a catalyst for the competitiveness of the local steel sector, while also supporting the broader green conversion of regional industry. We are proud to help drive change by developing new renewable energy plants and sustainable technology solutions.”
Cogne Acciai Speciali CEO, Eng. Massimiliano Burelli, added:“We are particularly pleased to strengthen, through this agreement, the long-standing partnership with CVA. The Energy Release framework will have the dual benefit of improving our economic competitiveness and supporting the virtuous decarbonisation process the company has been committed to for many years.”.
